Coronavirus cases in the U.S. grew by 50,900 in the past 24 hours, reaching 2,910,600, an increase of 1.8 percent. Deaths remained remarkably low at 220, even as hospitalizations grew in Texas and Florida where some counties are reporting a lack of available hospital rooms. Total reported deaths in the U.S. are now at 129,938.
Globally, cases were up 179,000 to 11.483 million. Deaths climbed to 535,027. India finally pulled ahead of Russia to rank as the country with the third-most cases, behind the U.S. and Brazil. At one point last month, it looked like Brazil might surpass the U.S., but the big sure in U.S. cases makes that unlikely now.
