Just a brief note to advise our readers that we have updated our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and our copyright statement to better reflect the current climate and our evolving relationships with third parties. Our main navigation menu has also changed slightly.
We also reviewed and made minor revisions to some of our pages, like Our Philosophy and the Layered Approach to Prepping. I am happy to report that these are virtually unchanged over the six years since the site launched—all we did was fix some typos, make some grammatical changes, and a small addition or two. I was pleased to see my prepping philosophy has been consistent.
Behind the scenes, there has also been some work done on the backend to speed page loading, streamline some processes, and improve the site’s performance. Other changes were made to make it more readable by AI agents. You may or may not notice these changes, but as we approach 2,000 posts, some housecleaning and improvements were necessary.
Comments
We have upgraded our spam checker for comments. This has allowed me to relax our comment policy to let more comments through without manual review. Our list of banned words is now much smaller, but we have our language settings set to PG, so please use some discretion.
In general, if you have posted a few times in the past, you can post again and it will show up on the page in minutes instead of hours (or even days). People who abuse the privilege will go back into the pending pile to be manually reviewed or denied.
If all goes according to plan, this will allow more comments and potentially conversations between commenters with little or no lag.
If you post from multiple devices, you might need to be “approved” on each one. Bear with us as we sort out the details and optimize the settings, but if you have had trouble commenting in the past, I encourage you to give it another go.
