Idaho became the latest state to have experienced an outbreak of the deadly avian influenza. To date, 27 million chickens and turkeys have been “depopulated,” which means killed to stop the spread of the virus. This article reports that egg prices have almost tripled as a result. Higher egg prices also result in higher costs for baked goods, salad dressings, and other food products.
Experts expect this outbreak to be worse than the one in 2015 which affected the market for years.
