A former British colonel predicted the political situation in England will lead to widespread and prolonged civil unrest, which in turn could result in civil war. When you boil it down, he believes the people will overthrow the government when they are convinced there is no political solution to societal collapse caused by Islamist leftists who threaten the “culture and political existence of the West.” Or, to simplify it further, when the common citizens finally reach their limit, they will revolt.
Other pundits have predicted the same outcome in France, saying there may be a second French Revolution. There have also been multiple predictions of second civil war in the United States.
It wouldn’t surprise me if all three came true at some point in the future, with coups and other political strife resulting in regime change around the globe.
Possible Scenarios in the United States
Many who speak of a second civil war in the U.S. see it as the inevitable result of the divisiveness that has emerged in our body politic and the distance between the right and the left.
I think we are already in the middle of a political battle that includes propaganda and social media warfare. Under Biden, the left brought in a new weapon—lawfare. Under Trump, that is being turned against them. The left, however, is still using the courts to try to fight policies they do not like. Only when these approaches fail—and the left is finding itself on the losing side more often than not—will they resort to physical actions, starting with mass protests and other forms of civil unrest before we reach armed resistance.
It may be that civil unrest by the socialists, which will include looting and destruction of property, will result in an aggressive response by the government. This will then be used by the left to generate more propaganda. They will position the arrest of people who try to kill cops and burn buildings as an overreaction, and their useful idiots will respond, generating larger riots.
I predict this will most likely happen after the midterm elections, especially if the Democrats lose seats.
The real danger emerges when informal armed groups or formal militias on different sides clash with each other because these groups will likely have no rules of engagement, little discipline, and a lack of battlefield skills. Expect any conflict of this nature to be ugly.
The Danger of Secession
There are a number of secessionist movements in various stages, most of which see large rural areas where conservatives live trying to separate themselves from the state’s blue cities where socialists have enough voting power to force their policies on the rural areas. Imagine what would happen if the eastern counties broke away from Washington State, refusing to remit taxes to the old state, ignoring court orders and founding their own “state” or declaring themselves part of Idaho without approval of Washington or of Congress.
First, the governor would order the State Police to intervene. Then the National Guard. At what point will the state they have joined act to protect its new citizens? Will we see different units of the National Guard engaging each other? And on which side will the feds fall?
Socialism as the Enemy
My guess is that a revolution in the U.S. would be the socialists against pretty much everyone else.
If the socialists are in charge of the federal government, then it will be a revolt by the people against the federal government and its many agencies. If the socialists are not in power at the national level, then we could see the federal government go to war against a socialist city or state government, such as California or Chicago. Whenever Trump threatens to “take over” a city, even if it is “for their own good,” we get a step closer to this scenario.
If the federal government gets involved in a civil war, even on a small scale, expect some internal fighting as the Deep State and Biden and Obama appointed officials fight back from within the government, doing their best to undercut its efforts.
Unexpected Consequences
You may have heard that only three percent of the population took an active role in the American Revolution. I expect more supported the effort behind the scenes by providing food, intelligence, and taking other passive actions. And then there are those who were caught up in the war by being at the wrong place at the wrong time, having their livestock taken by one army or the other, or their land becoming the scene of a battlefield. Others were victimized by the British for imagined wrongs or to make an example and punish the populace.
So where will you fall if there is American Revolution Two? Will you fight only if attacked, or will you pick up a gun and march on the capital? Will you support one side or aim for neutrality?
Even if you intend to stay out of it, lie low, and avoid trouble, trouble might find you. A war-torn country might be one without the rule of law, or with a corrupt rule of law that favors one group of people over the other. That might be determined by country of origin, skin color, religion, or simply whether they are locals or not. In other words, for your own safety, you may be required to at least appear to support one side or the other.
Without Rule of Law
In an internal conflict, expect changes in the rule of law. Things might become stricter, with the declaration of martial law and a loss of freedoms. Cops may become more partisan and arrest or harass those thought to be on the “wrong” side.
Law enforcement in some areas might choose to overlook actions by groups that attack and kill town council members and other local leaders who are deemed to be on the “other” side. Official investigations of crimes against one side might hide evidence or even destroy it. Prosecutors could choose not to prosecute some while throwing the book at others.
You need to be prepared for this sudden sea change. Don’t let your normalcy bias convince you that everything will be fine. History has proved again and again that upstanding citizens can take heinous to protect themselves and their families or for financial gain.
Be Prepared
While coups and a rapid overthrow of a government by the military can go quickly, sometimes happening overnight, a long drawn out internal conflict can be dangerous for many reasons. Here are some things to keep an eye out for:
- If protests or the government’s reactions to them grow out of hand, consider that it is not a big step from civil unrest to civil war.
- Should you see the mass arrest and incarceration of elected (or unelected) leaders, consider it a warning sign and increase your level of preparedness.
- If you see opposition leaders get assassinated, consider it a warning sign that one side of a future conflict is growing desperate.
- When American soldiers march on other American soldiers, it is time to hide your preps. Disperse a portion of your food to remote locations. Hide your guns and ammo. Confiscation could be right around the corner.
Finally, remember that not everything you see online is real; AI video is growing increasingly realistic, and bots are everywhere. Use common sense and question everything. Beware of false flags. If something is rapidly branded a conspiracy theory, it probably isn’t. When something big or bad happens, ask who benefits.
