Warning: this post is a bit of a rant and some may consider it politically correct. If it bothers you that I say “mankind” instead of “humankind” then you should probably skip this post.
The Democratic Party is in disarray with no clear leader. While different sectors within the Democrat Party fight it out for supremacy, what they seem to miss is that the majority of Americans disagree with their socialist policies. And the number is growing.
It doesn’t matter who is in charge. It doesn’t matter which wing of the party comes out on top. As long as they continue to encourage unlimited immigration and spend money on illegals instead of their citizens, they are going to lose national elections. As long as they endorse socialist policies and burdensome regulation that makes it difficult for small businesses to make money, to build cheap housing, and drive up the cost of gasoline and electricity, they are going to have a tough time winning elections.
Oh sure, cities like New York and states like California will still vote for Democratic candidates and socialist policies for some time, mostly because of momentum and elite residents who donate to those candidates. Over time, citizens of these blue states and cities will continue to wonder why their taxes are higher, there is no affordable housing, and crime keeps going up. And while they are wondering, the wealthy will leave. Large corporations that rent skyscrapers and employ thousands will relocate to places like Austin and Nashville. The downtowns they leave behind will collapse again until the only sign of life is the homeless.
Let them Stew
So when the small store owner is robbed at gunpoint and not allowed to own a weapon to fight back, he should remember that he voted for the party that wanted to defund the police.
When electrical bills in New England jump 11 percent, those residents should remember that they were against the new natural gas pipeline. Too bad, so sad, that will be an extra $356 for your electricity, and it will cost $4,800 to heat your home this winter.
When Californians see that the average price of gas in the U.S. is $3.16 and they are paying $5 or $6, they should remember they voted for a governor and legislature that drove the refineries out of state.
When your electricity gets shut off in Baltimore, or elsewhere, because there isn’t enough generating power, just remember who it was that shut down the coal-powered electric plants. Did you vote for that?
Let them stew it the sauce of their own making, I say, which is kind of a polite way to say FAFO. Let them pay the price and see if it changes their voting behavior. Likewise, let them look across the state line and wonder, “Why are taxes so low in that red state? Why was my neighbor able to move to a larger home with a backyard in another state while I am still in a two-bedroom apartment and my monthly costs are higher than his?
The High Cost of Socialism
Here is my real-world experience of costs of living in a somewhat corrupt city with socialist tendencies: My apartment in New York City rented for $1,100 a month back in the early 1990s. When I moved to the suburbs in another city, my mortgage payment on a 4BR house was $900. It had more than three times the square footage plus a yard, yet it was $200 cheaper. That one-bedroom apartment now rents for $3,850. That’s more than my mortgage at the big house on acreage outside a southern city where we used to live.
For detailed posts on socialism, read The Problems Socialism Bring and How to Survive Them and Why you Must Prepare NOW to Survive Socialism.
Now that there are billion-dollar railroads without a mile of track, a $7.5 program that built only 27 car charges over the four years of the Biden Administration, and cities where criminals are released from jail so they can re-offend multiple times, the fate of socialist programs and policies should be obvious.
Will any of those who do not leave blue cities realize they got what they voted for? Some might; others may not. Don’t be one of the latter. My advice is to make like Snake Plissken and escape New York and Los Angeles while you still can.
Vote with your Feet
As much as we do not want our area to be overrun with people from New York, Washington, California, and so forth, my advice to preppers and conservatives in those areas is to vote with your feet. Move somewhere cheaper, safer, and quieter where you can have a better quality of life. Just do me a favor and don’t move here. The Appalachians are full.
Wherever you move, leave your old policies behind. Have an open mind. Don’t turn wherever you land into what you escaped from by voting for the same policies that failed before.
Having been a prepper in a city, in the suburbs, and in the exurbs, I have seen first-hand how much easier it is to survive outside a socialist-controlled city. During my life journey from NYC to a series of smaller and smaller cities, towns, and villages, I have enjoyed progressively lower costs of living, a higher quality of life, and better places to raise my kids. I have seen lower crime, enjoyed the ability to park on a downtown street without paying for it, and had the opportunity to have livestock and harvest firewood to heat my home.
When I lived in New York, I knew my local dry cleaner, the girl at the video rental store, the woman at the laundromat, and the guys working in the local pizza parlor. In those two or three blocks, I was at home; everyone else in a city of millions was a stranger. Out here, I am well on my way to knowing everyone. At the very least, I know someone they know or to whom they are related. And I’m not even trying; it’s just a small town. The six degrees of separation in the movie are down to two or three around here.
Put the American Dream First
Let’s get back to the Democrats. Instead of making us all (except the elites, of course) equally poor, equally uneducated, and equally victimized, why not let those with superior intellect, work ethic, or ability rise to the top? Specialization has made mankind great, and helped make America great the first time around.
The leftists want to lower standards; I think we should raise the bar. You won’t know how high you can jump until you try. Not everyone is an Olympic athlete or NBA player, and that’s OK. Not everyone can pass calculus, become an MD, or become a fighter pilot, and that’s OK, too.
In the left’s vision of the country, fighter pilots would be picked from the underserved who “deserve” it the most, medical doctors would be people who were the most willing to perform abortions or sex changes, and our buildings would be designed by people with pretty ideas but no idea of building codes and civil engineering. The results should be pretty obvious. Obvious enough, we shouldn’t have to experience it to know it. But if there is one thing the left is good at, it’s fooling themselves and convincing others to follow along.
Do yourself a favor and resist. Take the red pill.
