The first sentence in this article starts like this: “The U.S. power grid is under significant stress.” The next one says, “The grid faces mounting vulnerabilities from extreme weather events, cybersecurity threats, and physical sabotage, while policy gridlock and infrastructure delays hinder necessary upgrades.
We’ve been warning about the loss of reliability in the electric grid and how dependent most of modern life is on a steady supply of power. This article addresses reasons for the increased demand, the supply gap, various vulnerabilities, and what is being done (slowly) to address them.
