AAC Ammo, a sister company to Palmetto State Armory, announced that they are pausing ammunition production for an unknown term, possibly as long as a year, because they cannot obtain sufficient powder to make their ammunition. As you can see in this video, they blamed large orders by the U.S. military.
First, this is bad news since AAC ammo was often inexpensive ammo, which I believe helped keep ammo prices low across the industry. Expect ammo prices to rise as a result.
Second, I have seen ammo grow scarce for civilians during prior wars in the Middle East. I have personal knowledge of a police department that had trouble getting ammo during such a shortage. As a result, it had to reduce training and cut back on qualifications because their order of 150,000 rounds was delayed for more than six months.
Third, this is why it is important to stockpile ammo. If your personal stock is a bit low, consider this a warning sign. The relatively low prices we have been enjoying on 9mm could be coming to an end.
