UPDATE Tuesday 9/24/24 — The storm has now been designated Hurricane Helene and the latest reports are it may reach category 4 strength as it crosses the Gulf of Mexico. Current projections have the storm heading slightly west after it makes landfall rather than crossing Florida and moving up the East Coast. This will bring more rain and heavy winds to the interior of the Southeast, including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and possibly Arkansas, with large swatches of those states predicted to get up to 8 inches of rain, more than enough to trigger local flooding.

A hurricane is expected to make landfall Thursday, bringing winds in excess of 100 mph, high surf, and large amounts of rain to the Florida Panhandle, with damaging winds, heavy rain, and potential flooding to Georgia and Alabama. Depending on which track it takes, the storm could head west, dumping rain on Alabama and into Tennessee, or may swing east, hitting the Carolinas.
If you live along the Gulf or in the Southeast, brace for a Category 3 Hurricane to hit and prepare accordingly.
