Three Potential Crises
If you thought our recent coverage of the threat of Russia invading Ukraine and China invading Taiwan were a bit much, then you will be shocked at this mainstream news report that says “A potential Russian invasion of Ukraine, Chinese pressure on Taiwan and shaky Iran nuclear talks represent a perilous moment for President Biden.”
According to the Wall Street Journal:
“Any one of these standoffs has the potential to shake the world order and produce wider conflict. Taken together, they signal that the U.S. and its allies are at a dangerous moment—perhaps more dangerous than many Americans realize. The challenge for President Biden and the democratic leaders he’ll be consulting with this week is to find a way to show firmness on each front without provoking a crisis.”
China is already threatening the U.S. should we assist Taiwan in the advent of an invasion.
Omicron Highly Contagious
Recent data shows the new Omicron variation of COVID is 4.2 times more contagious than prior versions, but appears to be less deadly with one 1 out of every 43 people sickened needing hospitalization and no reported deaths as of December 9. Three quarters of people who have contracted the Omicron variation are vaccinated and one third had received a booster.
