June 6 Coronavirus report: Cases Jump

There were 28,500 new cases of the coronavirus reported in the U.S. over the past 24 hours, an increase of 1,5 percent, to . This is the largest jump in weeks and raises questions about whether large, public gatherings at the Memorial Day holiday and recent protests will result in a surge of cases.

There were 1,006 U.S. Deaths reported, almost identical to yesterday, bringing the total to deaths 109,200, but deaths are trailing indicator. If there is indeed a spate of new cases, deaths should not increase until will be a week or two after.

Globally, deaths increased by 89,000 in the past 24 hours, climbing to 6.761 million while deaths increased to 309,495.
