Just a few days after fires broke out at a Russian defense institute and at a Russian chemical plant, fires have broke out Monday at two Russian oil plants, one of which is a military oil depot.
While this article reports that the fires were “probably” caused by Ukrainian saboteurs, we must keep in mind that this could well be another example of a cyber attack. While traditional cyber attacks cause data loss and system crashes, the military-related attacks can cause fires and explosions, sometimes by causing equipment to over heat and fail. There is also speculation that missile attacks from inside Ukraine hit these targets, but at this time nothing is definite.
Whichever the cause, these fires appear to represents an escalation in the war.
