The West Runs Out of Water as Colorado River Dwindles

A megadrought is hitting the west coast, limiting the available for water for crops, people, and the environment.

It’s a choice between dying of thirst or dying of hunger: Do the planners cut water to people and cities or to farmers and crops? Either way, it won’t be pretty as there isn’t enough water to go around.

If the water level drops so low it can’t flow though the dams that create Lake Mead and Lake Powell, it will create what is known as a “dead pool.” That will cut water supplies to more than 25 million Americans. It could happen in 2023 or 2024.
