August 16: Coronavirus Levels Off

The United States reported 50,335 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total nu,ner of cases to 5.37 million.  Deaths increased by 1,059 to 169,394.  Both numbers were slightly below the 7-day moving average.

Globally, cases were up by some 240,000 and deaths climbed by approximately 5,100 to 771,592.  Global case growth has leveled off in the past month in a range between 250,000 and 300,000 per day and shows no signs of decreasing.
